Karlovy Vary is an amazing city full of healing waters and colorful architecture that encourages you to take long walks to admire it all. The spa town located about 2 hours from Prague is famous for its natural hot springs and “curative” waters that you can drink from. I spent a whole day in Karlovy Vary and I thought it was enough time to see the sights of the city and still have time to sit down and relax or explore at my own pace.
My suggestions for things to do are:
Moser Museum and Glassworks Factory
This place is a must see because it is so cool to watch the glass-makers blow their pieces and shape amazing creations out of the Bohemia crystal the region is known for.
Have Dessert at the Grand Hotel Pupp
Chanel your inner Queen Latifah and spend your night looking at the beautiful interior of the hotel. She’s right- the ceilings really do make you want to cry.
Take in Amazing Views of the City
For the best views of the city, I recommend going to the Diana Observation Tower, which is the highest point in Karlovy Vary (1800 ft). The tower is accessed by a lift that ascends every 15 minutes. You can reach the Deer Jump Lookout by walking down from the Diana Observation Tower or you can hike a small distance up for about 15 minutes.
Drink the Rich Mineral Water
It would be unacceptable to visit this city without tasting its mineral water at least once (there are 13 major and over 300 minor hot springs). The easiest way to do so is by buying one of the porcelain cups sold around town (which also makes a great souvenir) and filling it up at one of the many springs. Delicious!
Although the city is growing with celebrity popularity, it is still a perfect getaway full of relaxation for any budget traveler. I would very much recommend visiting this lovely little city in the Czech Republic.
